On every cylinder bank, a Ford Explorer 4.6L V8 has eight ignition coils. It is quite simple to replace them. It looks hard but it is not. The wont need any special tool for this. Just hang over the hood to reach back coils. You can find the bad ignition coils with an OBDII scanner. Service engine light will turn on if the vehicle is misfiring and you will feel a delay while accelerating. Just plug the scanner to find which cylinder is misfiring. Swap the coil that you are doubtful on to another cylinder to check whether it is really causing a misfire or not.
